Speakers:

Karen Geller, Nurse-attorney and FHN Director of Compliance

Karen Geller is the Director of compliance at FHN. In this role, she coordinates, plans, implements and updates the corporate compliance program which she originally developed in 1998. Her role involves the preparation and enhancement of policies and procedures to monitor the activities of FHN to assure that they are in compliance with all federal and state, legal and regulatory mandates required of a not-for-profit organization.

Karen brings a varied experience base to her current position. She is a nurse-attorney who practiced in the areas of medical malpractice, health law, and workers’ compensation with the firm of Hinshaw and Culbertson. In the last five years, she has held the positions of Vice President of Quality at Cabrini Medical Center, and the Director of Risk Management and Regulatory Affairs at The Mount Sinai Hospital, both academic teaching hospitals in New York City. She serves as a contributor to RN Magazine’s “Advice of Counsel” column and is the author of the chapter on “Confidentiality of Medical Records and Other Documents” in the recently published book Medical Malpractice Claims Investigation. While in New York, Karen was the president of the Association of Healthcare Risk Managers of New York. She is also active in the national American Society for Healthcare Risk Management where she chaired the bylaws committee and has contributed to several publications .

Jennifer Holder, MBA HRM, Human Resource Consultant for FHN.

Jennifer received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration with a triple emphasis in Marketing, Management, and Human Resource Management from the University of Wisconsin- Platteville, and recently completed an MBA with specialization in Human Resource Management from University of Phoenix. She has been working in the Human Resource field for twelve years, and healthcare specific for the past nine years. Her current role with FHN is consultant for coordination of Wellness programs, including FHN Wellness Rebate program and Passport to Freeport Walking program.

Teresa Bussan, APN/CNP

Teresa Bussan, APN/CNP in Cardiology, FHN, earned her bachelor’s degree from Edgewood College in Madison, WI in 2000, and joined the United States Air Force and served as a clinical nurse. Upon separating from the Air Force, she earned her master’s degree as a Gerontological Nurse Practitioner from the University of South Alabama, Mobile. She continued her education and obtained a post-graduate certificate in Cardiovascular Health and Disease Management from Loyola University, Chicago. In her current position at FHN, she cares for adult patients with cardiovascular disorders and cardiac risk factors. She developed and spear-headed FHN’s Cardiac Wellness Clinic, an individualized, comprehensive cardiac risk reduction program designed to help patients reduce their overall cardiac risk. Teresa is passionate about working with her patients and empowering them with the education and guidance to obtain and maintain a healthy lifestyle.
